Latest verdict in Pirate Bay file-sharing case
by Zuzana Zelenakova

Pirate bay is called “the world´s most resilient bittorent site”, however, its future is hanging on a thread thanks to a verdict passed by the Swedish appeals court Friday. Last year four managers and founders of Pirate Bay were sentenced to one year in jail and a fine of $4.57 million or €3.45 million. The Friday verdict reduced the jail sentences to between 4 and 10 months, but at the same time raised the fine. "Most lawyers are not that surprised that they were convicted," said law professor at the University of Uppsala Marten Shultz. "What is maybe a bit surprising is that the amount of damages was so high. It's really incredibly high - a really! staggering amount," he commented on raising the fine to $6.5 million. On the other hand, Christian Engstrom, member of the European Parliament for the Pirate Party, said the actions taken by the court only prove how much influence the corporations have on Swedish courts. "It's very disappointing, because it proves that when it comes to corporate cases, you can't trust the Swedish legal system," he said. "The lawyers for the record companies are friends with the judges, both in the lower court and in the appeals court. They belong to the same societies for copyright, which is a lobby organization for copyright lawyers. This corruption unfortunately leads to the fact that you can't get a fair trial in copyright-related issues in Sweden today." The Pirate Bay first got tangled into the legal controversies back in 2008. It was sentenced for copyright infringement of protected content shared without authorization. The Pirate Bay defended themselves saying that the copyright da! ta was not uploaded directly and users shared files using Peer! -to-Peer technology. The company has about 23 million users including 5 million registered users.

Švédsky súd zamietol odvolanie v prípade spoločnosti Pirate Bay
by Zuzana Zelenakova

by Barbora Misakova

Hackeri budú pravdepodobne jednou z najväčších hrozieb spoločnosti, a to vo veľmi blízkej budúcnosti. Prosíme, skúste neskôr.“ Hoci „nevznikla vážnejšia škoda“ ako informoval hovorca, Britské Kráľovské Námorníctvo bolo nútené stránku okamžite stiahnuť a začať riešiť aktivizovanie programu národnej kybernetickej ochrany.

UK Navy's website hacked!
by Barbora Misakova

Hacker will be probably one of the most feared personas in the close future. Hackers’ ability to get anywhere and steal anything from personal computers is in this informative era the biggest threat. In 2005, when networking and security expert Eric McCarty found a flaw in the online system and was able to access any of the more than 275,000 student applications on the system, including Social Security numbers. Even though he didn’t abuse it, he was prosecuted and after he pleaded guilty he received a sentence of six months of home detention. Professor Pascal Meunier had similar experience in 2006, when his student reported that a physics website had a vulnerabi! lity. Even though he informed the site and its administrators to fix it, two months later it was hacked and police security turned to the professor and his student. There is innumerable quantity of cases like these, but many of them ended up even worse. While hackers are chased around the world, pages are still hacked. Last time it was UK navy’s website. Message on this website reads: “Unfortunately the Royal Navy website is currently undergoing essential maintenance. Please visit again soon.” Even though “there has been no malicious damage” as Royal Navy spokesman said, Britain’s Royal Navy was forced to take its website down immediately and start national cyber security program. The website was hacked just weeks after the government announced a 650 million pound ($1.05 billion). As it seems, the time for it has already come. After all there is no price that would be too high for security.
